契訶夫的**內容豐富，其代表作有揭露統治階級奴才的暴戾無恥的《變色龍》、《普里希別葉夫中士》等；反映小市民庸俗與醜惡的《匿名者的故事》、《跳來跳去的女人》等。《哀傷》、《苦惱》、《萬卡》等真切地寫出了勞動人民的痛苦、生活和悲劇命運；而《沒意思的故事》《套中人》等則深刻地揭示出知識分子的空虛苦悶，嚮往新生的內心世界。他的劇作《萬尼亞舅舅》、《三姊妹》等與他的**一樣表面上並無離奇之處，大都講述很普通的生活故事，然而細細品味，作品中蘊含著深邃的思想，人物的對白常常包含著豐富的潛臺詞。

」2023年7月15日，契訶夫病逝於德國。
作為**19世紀末最後一位傑出的現實主義文學巨匠，契訶夫以對「小人物」 命運空前的關注，以對沙皇制度的專橫和虛偽的無情揭露贏得了巨大的國際聲譽。契訶夫的作品在歐美許多國家都有廣泛的影響。契訶夫逝世不久，他的作品便被譯成中文，介紹給中國讀者。
